DP Ruto arrives for burial of the late Kipyegon Kenei in Nakuru

Deputy President William Ruto was at the burial of the late Sgt. Kipyegon Kenei in Rongai, Nakuru County on Saturday.

The late Kenei worked as a security officer at the DP’s Harambee Annex office in Nairobi.

Police were called to the officer’s house in Imara Daima, Nairobi County, on February 20 after a neighbor discovered the body with a gunshot wound to the head.

On Saturday, Labour CS Simon Chelugui, received the Deputy President at the Chamasis home in Solai ward for the burial service.

CS Chelugui is a close relative to the family of the late Sgt. Kenei.

The DP arrived in the company of Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika, Nakuru Woman Rep Liza Chelugui, Mogotio MP Daniel Tuitoek and Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri.

Dr. Ruto has since demanded that relevant authorities expedite investigations into the death, and spare Kenyans the unnecessary drama.

“The truth MUST be found on WHY, HOW,and WHO killed Sgt kenei. The family, ODP,and kenyans want the TRUTH & JUSTICE and culprits held to account. The drama, distortions, convenient half-truths and the smear campaigns in sponsored headlines amounts to criminal cover up,” he said on Twitter on Friday.

Kenei’s father Chesang also wants the government to reveal the data from his late son’s phone.

Preliminary investigations found that money was sent to the family via MPesa but data deleted from the phone after that.

Detectives handling the matter previously told the press that the Kenei’s killers had colluded with an employee of Safaricom to erase crucial data from his phone after his death.

The missing data is a crucial link that will trace the very last moments of the police officer before he was killed at his one-roomed house.

During the funeral service on Friday in Nairobi, Mr. Chesang looked disturbed before the body arrived: he only talked to a few relatives.

The service was almost brought to standstill by the late Kenei’s fiancéé Alice Chesang who broke down after seeing the casket.

The couple that had two children was to be married in August.
