DP Ruto casts his vote, faults NASA for boycott

Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday appealed to those not participating in the repeat presidential election not to interfere with those casting their ballot.

Speaking to the media after casting his vote in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County, Ruto called for peace saying that voting is a constitutional right further insisting on the need for everyone to respect the rights of others.

While seemingly hitting out at the opposition for withdrawing from the repeat poll, Ruto expressed regret in the decision by NASA to boycott the poll while indicating that it is their democratic right to do so.

“It is unfortunate that some of us may not have the freedom to choose their leaders because of the will of others who do not wish their supporters to vote,” said Ruto.

“You can choose to think for yourself or choose someone else to think for you… It simply demonstrates everybody can choose what they want and that is democracy,” he added.

The DP also emphasised on the need to respect public institutions like IEBC, the judiciary.

“In our opinion we had won the August 8th election but because of the respect for our institutions, we chose to do it again and that is why we are here. Kenya is a democracy anchored on the rule of law,” he added

“This is yet another moment to be proud of our country. Those that will vote and those who will not, we remain one country” concluded Ruto.
