DP Ruto challenges Raila, Musyoka’s development records

Deputy President William Ruto has put into question the development record of CORD leaders Raila Odinga, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka during their time in government.

Speaking at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa, Ruto said that CORD leaders had nothing to show after years in government, adding that Jubilee has proved its critics wrong in matters of development.

“The people who should be held to account for mismanagement of public resources are CORD leaders who did nothing to improve the lives of Kenyans during the grand coalition days where Raila was the Prime Minister and Kalonzo the Vice President, with Wetangula as Minister,” he said.

“There is no government in the history of this country that has allocated as much as Ksh60 billion to ensuring water is available in the country,” he said.

“We have built the Standard Gauge Railway within three years in power, with the first train from Mombasa to Nairobi setting off on June 1, 2017; we are building a proper road from the airport to Port Reitz to the tune of Ksh5 billion while CORD is busy playing petty politics.”

He defended the issuance of title deeds by the Jubilee Government saying despite criticism from CORD; they have helped solve  land issues at the coast.

“They said that we are issuing  fake title deeds yet they did not make any efforts to deal with the land situation when they were in government. By next year, we will have issued all title deeds that we  promised to.”

He claimed that CORD is out to oppose every development project that Jubilee is dedicated to implement, including the provision of water just for political mileage.

DP Ruto said it is their intention as a government to better the lives of Kenyans by providing free maternity services, ensuring homes are connected to electricity, despite their geographical location and providing better healthcare.

He stated that they are on course to modernise the port of Mombasa in a bid to ensure effective delivery of services.

Raila has in the past hit out at Jubilee for claiming glory over projects that he launched as Prime Minister in the coalition government with President Mwai Kibaki.

During his tour of Kakamega, the CORD leader named several roads that he had mapped out for construction as well as the expansion of the Port of Mombasa as some of the key initiatives that they had set out to do.
