DP Ruto: Intimidating leaders and blackmailing Senate is very wrong

Deputy President William Ruto has lauded the formation of a bipartisan Senate Committee to end the revenue-sharing stalemate.

DP Ruto said a win-win consensus is the indicator of great wisdom and leadership, referring to stalemate in which senators failed to agree on the formula, a record 9 times.

At the same time, he fired shots at the powers that be, saying the abuse of police and criminal justice is not the reasons why millions of Kenyans voted for the Jubilee government.

“The abuse of police and criminal justice to bully citizens, threaten and intimidate leaders and now blackmail senate is wrong, very wrong and is not the reason why millions woke up early to vote for us,” the DP wrote on Twitter.

The latest comes just a day after the arrests of Senators Christopher Lang’at (Bomet), Cleophas Malala (Kakamega) and Steve Lelegwe (Samburu).

The three were arrested separately in Nairobi and Kajiado counties under unclear circumstances.

The three senators were among those who rejected a revenue-sharing formula proposed by the gov’t that would see the revenue allocation to certain counties slashed.

The arrests were condemned by leaders and citizens with the senate failing to agree on a revenue sharing formula by Monday evening.
