DP Ruto, Nkaissery to visit Kapedo in disarmament drive

Deputy President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery are set to visit Kapedo to push for the recovery of illegal arms.

The disarmament drive is aimed at making sure all guns are legally owned by locals and not stay in the wrong hands.

The government is set to ask the residents to surrender illegal weapons.

Nkaissery has promised that the government will recover all weapons stolen by bandits in 2010 when they killed security officers in Baragoi.

Meanwhile, Nkaissery has said that the construction of a security wall along Kenya-Somali border will go on despite criticism from a section of opposition leaders who claim it is a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Nkaissery said the wall is intended to secure Kenya and therefore they are not ready to stop the construction.

He further stated that he would visit Garissa, Mandera, Wajir and Lamu counties to sensitise the locals on importance the walls.

Nkaissery was speaking when he appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Administration and National Security on Tuesday.
