DP Ruto on BBI: We know you want to steal our money through a referendum

Deputy President has vouched for a national consensus on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, saying his camp will reject a ‘forced referendum’

Speaking in Mathira on Saturday, DP Ruto said the issues raised in the report can be passed if all Kenyans agree on them without necessarily going to a referendum.

The second-in-command poked holes at the proposed referendum saying it will be a vehicle for politicians to loot public coffers.

According to DP Ruto, a nationwide consensus building would cost nothing, saving the taxpayer billions of money and at the same time, ensuring Kenyans are on the same page.

“We know you want to steal our money through the referendum, hawa watu wa no one can stop reggae, mkiendelea, wakenya watasimamisha hiyo reggae,” DP Ruto said.

He asked those who are pushing for a referendum to focus on issues that will help the Kenyan hustlers.

While drumming up support for his 2022 presidential bid, DP Ruto said he is the most qualified politician- having worked in the government since 2013- to succeed President Kenyatta.

He appealed to the proponents of the newly released report to focus on policies that will empower the common mwanainchi and not just the rich and the affluent .

“As we discuss positions for leaders, we should discuss the job opportunities for our youth, we want the four million jobs that the Big 4 agenda promised,” DP Ruto said.

During the same address, DP Ruto threw his weight behind the Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua who was recently grilled over an alleged misappropriation of public funds.

According to the DP, the vocal legislator’s woe were motivated by politicians who were keen on punishing him for supporting him .

He also seized the moment to call out Kenyan politicians who were using the Kenyan justice system to target his allies.
