DP Ruto missing at BBI handover event as allies dismiss report
Deputy President William Ruto was conspicuously absent at the Kisii State Lodge on Wednesday where his boss received the BBI report.
The DP whose camp has previously critiqued the report as a “vehicle for the political elite to award themselves leadership positions” instead attended a funeral service in Eldoret.
The burial ceremony was for the late Peter Chomba who was the MCA for Eldoret Huruma Ward.
The county official succumbed to COVID-19 complications a week ago.
On Wednesday, DP Ruto-allies led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen dismissed the BBI report.
“As expected, it is totally underwhelming,” Murkomen said on Twitter.
Senator Millicent Omanga also joined the fray, firing shots at ODM leader Raila Odinga after he scoffed at their wheelbarrow and bodaboda initiative.
“Before Raila lectures anyone about donating helicopters instead of Wheelbarrows to the youth he must tell us how many helicopters he has donated. We don’t want people taking Kenyans for fools just to be politically correct,” Omanga wrote on Twitter.
The ODM leader had accused the DP of hoodwinking Kenyans by using his helicopter to go donate the wheelbarrows and fruits carts.
He made the comments during the handover ceremony of the BBI report at the Kisii State Lodge on Wednesday.
His sentiments came a day after DP Ruto said he only hopes that the conversation about the BBI will be a robust one that includes all Kenyans.
On his part, President Kenyatta dismissed the rhetoric about the report being about leadership positions.
He urged Kenyans to read the document before taking a stand on it.
According to him, it is the elusive elixir that Kenya needs in order to solve rounds of violence after elections while building a nation of ideals.
He further appealed to politicians to desist from divisive politics and instead unite and deliberate on decisions for the betterment of the country and its future generations.
The BBI report will be launched to the public on Monday, October 26 at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.
