DPP clears Devolution CS nominee Mwangi Kiunjuri of incitement to violence claims

The Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko has cleared Devolution Cabinet Secretary nominee Mwangi Kiunjuri of allegations of incitement to violence.

In a pronouncement made on Monday, Tobiko sought to withdraw the case before Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo after the Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro said it will be a challenge to trace witnesses after 15 years.

Kiunjuri had denied that on January 23rd, 2000 at Rumuruti Primary School in Laikipia County, he uttered words that could incite the public to violence.

The matter has been withdrawn Under section 87(a) of the CPC which states that he can be re-arrested and charged again.

Appearing before the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee on Friday, Kiunjuri, who is nominated to hold the position formerly held by Anne Waiguru, said he resigned from GNU party in January 2014 and as such he no longer held a political leadership post that would have hindered his nomination.

Other nominees vetted include Charles Keter (Energy and Petroleum), Dr. Cleopha Mailu (Health), Joseph Mucheru (ICT), Willy Bett (Agriculture), Sicily Kariuki (Public Service, Youth and Gender) and Dan Kazungu (Mining).
