DPP denies seeking to withdraw charges against fake gold scam suspect Jared Otieno
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has denied reports published by a local daily alleging that he intends to withdraw a case against fake gold scam suspect Jared Otieno.
DPP Haji, in a tweet posted on Tuesday, said the Ksh.23 million case against Mr. Otieno as well as 4 other suspects is still very much on and that he has no intention whatsoever of withdrawing it.
According to the DPP, the case came up for mention on Monday but could not proceed because one of the accused persons failed to turn up.
He further added that the case is however scheduled for mention on Tuesday in order to take hearing dates.
Mr. Otieno was in May 2019 released on a Ksh.1.5 million cash bail in a fraud case where he, alongside others, were accused of obtaining Ksh.300 million in a fake gold deal.
The court heard that the suspects, on diverse dates between February 8 and February 25, 2019 at Kaputei Gardens, obtained the said amount – with intent to defraud – from Sounthorn Chanthavong, a director of Simoung Group Company.
