DPP Keriako Tobiko orders probe into ODM Migori rally chaos

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko, has directed the Director of Criminal Investigations, Ndegwa Muhoro, to initiate investigations into chaos that rocked the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) rally in Migori County on Monday, April 3.

In a letter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss, Tobiko has raised concern over the political violence that left scores injured, including Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s bodyguard.

The DPP wants the investigations expedited and the file forwarded to his office for action.

This comes even as Joho, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed and Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo claim the chaos were part of a ploy to assassinate the Mombasa Governor after his car was left with a bullet hole.

Trouble ensued when hooligans, believed to be Migori Governor, Okoth Obado supporters, stormed the function disrupting the proceedings.

Stones and water bottles were hurled at the ODM leaders, forcing them to scamper to safety.

In a circular to news rooms, Joho stated that a bodyguard was shot in the melee – a report that was confirmed by Rongo OCPD, Jonathan Kisaka. The Governor further claimed that shots were fired at his car.

Joho, who has been sharply critical of the Jubilee administration and President Uhuru Kenyatta, claims that the violent happenings at Migori were politically motivated.
