Dr. Hillary Barchok to be sworn in as new Bomet Governor today

Bomet Deputy Governor Dr. Hillary Barchok is set to be sworn in as the new county chief on Thursday August 8, 2019.

The ceremony will held at the Bomet Green Stadium with Deputy President William Ruto expected to be the chief guest.

Addressing the press on Wednesday after inspecting the venue, Chairperson of the Assumption of Office of the Governor Committee Evelyne Rono further stated that other guests will include Council of Governors boss Wycliffe Oparanya as well as various Cabinet Secretaries.

The swearing-in ceremony will be conducted by Kericho High Court Judge George Dullu.

The Bomet governor’s seat fell vacant following the July 29, 2019 demise of then 59-year-old Joyce Laboso who succumbed to Cancer at the Nairobi Hospital.

She was on August 3 laid to rest in a State funeral at her matrimonial family home in Fort Ternan, Kisumu County.

Her widow, Dr. Edwin Abonyo, won the hearts of many for his outstanding character and was greatly appreciated for showing boldness and courage despite losing his wife.

The incoming county boss, Dr. Barchok, now faces the uphill task of naming a fitting deputy governor.

This comes following rallying calls by women leaders – led by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru – during Laboso’s funeral for her successor to appoint a female deputy.
