Drama as AP officer steals boda boda

There was drama in Murang’a Town on Saturday after police officers and boda boda operators were involved in a altercation following the recovery of a motorbike that was allegedly stolen by an AP officer.

The fierce exchange of words began after the operators stormed Mjini chief’s camp in Kiharu Constituency baying for the blood of the officer who allegedly stole the bike and id it at the camp.

The operators were met by a team of police officers, administration police and Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers who blocked them from accessing the camp.

According to the operators, the motorbike belonging to Kenneth Mwangi was stolen from Mukuyu area after the rider entered Mukuyu Market to pick a luggage for one of his clients.

Mwangi, who still had his motorbike keys at hand during the interview, alleged that the AP officer who stole it must have had a master key for him to operate the motorcycle.

Silas Matheri Kamau, another operator at the neighboring Maragi Shopping Centre complained that his motorcycle had also been stolen but the matter has never been addressed.

Zaina Wanjiku, who owns a motorbike but has employed a young man to operate it, expressed her sincere concern saying that most riders take loans from financial institutions in order to purchase the motorbikes.

Citing security concerns, he said that that over 20 boda boda riders from Mukuyu have been murdered and their motorcycles stolen.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior police officer from Murang’a confirmed the matter, adding that investigations had already been launched and criticised the vice.
