Drama as Bobi Wine flees from Ugandan police on boda boda – VIDEO

Chaos rocked the streets of Kampala, Uganda on Wednesday as singer-turned-politician Bobi Wine was forced to flee from police during a confrontation.

Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi, is seen in a short viral video clip chasing down a motorcycle for a few meters before finally jumping aboard.

According to reports published by the country’s media outlets, Wine was protesting after his planned Independence Day concert was blocked by authorities.

“We are unable to provide adequate security as police officers will be at the Independence Day celebrations in Sironko and other authorized venues,” police spokesman Patrick Onyango said over the move in an earlier statement.

The home of the Kyadondo East legislator was early Wednesday morning surrounded by police and military officials in a bid to block him from proceeding with the concert.

Wine, in a post on social media, shared photos of police vehicles and spiked road barriers leading to his lakeside property and home in Magere.

“My home in Magere is yet again under police and military siege! At about 11:00pm last night, they surrounded my home in Magere as well as One Love Beach Busabala, in another move to place me under house arrest and block our Independence Day music concert,” he said.

He further added that five Ugandan media houses – NTV, NBS, BBS, Bukedde TV and Radio Sapientia – had been threatened with revocation of their licenses “for carrying a live coverage of police brutality against me and our supporters.”

Wine joined politics in 2017 as an independent and has continuously condemned President Yoweri Museveni’s policies as well as his government.

The 37-year-old, who has been arrested a few times in the recent past over his political stand, has since declared his candidature for the 2021 presidential race, vowing to end Museveni’s 33-year-rule over Uganda.
