Drama as goons disrupt report on Sonko’s ‘poor’ leadership

Drama erupted on Monday morning after goons stormed a press briefing called by the Nairobi Central Business District Association (NCBDA) to address the media on the failures of Mike Sonko’s county government.

The chairperson of the association, Timothy Muriuki, was roughed up by two men who threatened to throw him into the swimming pool at Boulevard Hotel where the press conference was to take place.

In a video capturing the dramatic scenes, the goons were heard saying the association was out to taint Governor Mike Sonko’s name.

The goons then escorted Mr. Muriuki out of the hotel as they tore his press release and manhandled him infront of the cameras.

Outside Boulevard Hotel, Mr. Muriuki was further assaulted by goons who were captured shoving and kicking him. Efforts by the NCBDA boss to flee were futile as the rowdy youth caught up with him forcing him to sit on muddy water on the road.

Mr. Muriuki defended himself saying he did not intend to malign the Nairobi Governor.

Governor Mike Sonko has been under fire in the recent past over his perceived failure to clean up the mess in the city.

On Sunday, Sonko, who had promised sweeping changes in the management of Nairobi within 100 days of office, said cartels that took root during his predecessor Evans Kidero’s reign have made his work too difficult. He said he will need another 100 days to set things right.
