There was drama at Kericho Law Courts on Thursday after the Kericho resident magistrate tried to flee from the chambers to avoid arrest by Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) officers after she was found taking bribes.

Judith Nyakol was tracked down by EACC officers within Kericho Town and the Sh10,000 she is said to have received from a man whose case she was to rule on Thursday recovered from her purse.

Kericho Court Clerk Robert Cheruiyot was also apprehended during the operation after he was also nabbed with Sh10,000, which was supposed to ensure the accused receives a favorable ruling Thursday.

Confirming the arrests, Kericho County Police Commander Rose Muchuma said the two judicial officers are being questioned at Kericho Police Station and will be arraigned in court on Tuesday once investigations are completed.

EACC detective said they had been following up the case facing a man who had been arrested for operating a bar without a licence in the outskirts of Kericho Town before they laid a trap for the judge and clerk.
