Drama as man attempts to bury late wife inside their house in Murang’a

There was drama on Saturday after Kelvin Mwangi tried to bury his late wife, Lucy Muthoni, inside an unfinished building at their home in Rwathia, Murang’a.

Neighbors say the man professes faith to a sect that believes people who die have gone to sleep- which is why the grave had been dug inside the couple’s bedroom.

The sect believes that the deceased may be roused from “their sleep” any time.

The man had reportedly contracted grave diggers from elsewhere,  hoping to stay under the radar of curious neighbors.

Villagers who got wind of the bizarre ceremony however rushed to the man’s home, throwing the event into disarray.

They then collected all manners of items among them stones and sticks which they used to cover up the grave.

The family of the deceased protested the action by the irate villagers and vowed to go on with the ceremony.

The deceased  passed on last Saturday with neighbors saying the man had been secretive about the burial plans which is against the traditions.

The body of the deceased was returned to a morgue within Kangema until the matter is resolved.
