Drama as Man Buries Wife in Kitchen as a Sign of Love

The man dug a grave in the kitchen alone after residents refused to assist him claiming it was a taboo in the Kisii community.

Lawrence Gekonge, stated that he chose to defy traditions and give his wife a decent send off adding that it was as a sign of love in their twenty year marriage.

Gekonge added that his decision to bury the wife in the kitchen was a symbol of the role most women play in marriage.

He mentioned that his desire is to be buried in the sitting room too.

Since the death of his wife, who was a nurse at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret on March 18th this year, Gekonge was in a tough court battle over burial rights with his in-laws.

Last week, he was granted his wishes to bury his wife.

Colleagues from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital attended the burial and were compelled to oversee the funeral program after the local community shied away because of the peculiar incident by a man they call a humble peasant.
