Drama as Murang’a mechanics protest demolition of structures

There was drama at the County Government of Murang’a offices after mechanics based in Mukuyu Town held demonstrations protesting demolition of their structures Wednesday, August 31 night.

Led by their chairman, Paul Kariuki, the mechanics accused area Member of County Assembly, Charles Mwaniki, of colluding with the County Government to demolish the structure on the basis that they were donated by the ‘Maendeleo Ya Wanawake’ chairperson, Jacinta Ng’ang’a, who is said to be his greatest rival.

Town Manager, Jeremiah Mwirigi, accused Ms Ng’ang’a of constructing the shades without the approval of the town management.

He, however, said that the County Government will put up better shades for the mechanics, an issue the protesters opposed.

A heated exchange later ensued between Ms Ng’an’ga and Mwaniki with the latter opting to clear his name from the allegations that he supervised the demolitions.

He further claimed that the Maendeleo Ya Wanawake leader had been blaming him for all her woes, including a matter pending in court.

The mechanics have given the County Government a 48-hour ultimatum to re-do the structures failure to which they will go back to the streets.
