DRAMA as pupils stone parents

There was drama at a local primary school in Embu’s Kevote area after pupils ‘attacked’ their parents by pelting stones at them for allegedly storming the institution and demanding the ejection of the headteacher.

Pupils of St. Michael Kevote Primary School waited patiently until their parents made their way to the school compound before turning unruly and stoning them.

The parents were demanding for immediate transfer of the headteacher, Muriithi Njiraga, saying that the school’s performance has dipped since his arrival at the school nine years ago.

The irate pupils warned the parents not to interfere with the school programme saying that the matter could be resolved amicably.

The parents retreated from the institution with the injured ones seeking medical attention from the neighbouring health facilities.

One of the parents, a Catherine Njoki, was rushed to hospital after sustaining head injuries. The parents claimed that the school was coaching the learners on how to attack them (parents).

Ms Njoki expressed shock at the manner in which the pupils reacted saying that parents were just fighting for better education for their children.

The parents’ demonstration was informed by what they termed as poor performance in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), where the school attained a mean score of 191.73, placing it second last in the division.

The parents have vowed to push for the transfer of the headteacher, failure to which, they will withdraw the pupils from the school until a new school head has been appointed.

Nembure Zone Education Officer, John Kambao, arrived at the school with police officials to mediate saying that the Ministry of Education will look into the issue raised by the parents.
