Drama at Nakuru County Assembly as MCA breaks down
A scuffle ensued at the Nakuru County Assembly as members adopted a report of an ad hoc committee that sought to relieve the County Secretary Joseph Mogusi Motari and the County Chief Public Officer, Phillip Sigei, of their duties.
The report indicted the two for operating what the assembly termed as an ‘illegal employment cartel’.
On Wednesday afternoon, a heated debate chaired by the County Assembly Speaker, Susan Kihika, 150 casual workers believed to have been hired by the two were also sent packing.
The motion sparked drama in the Assembly with Turi MCA, Michael Wangombe, sending the whole House to laughter after he broke down to tears in full glare of cameras to show solidarity with the fired workers.
The chairman of the County Public Service Board, Waithanji Mutiti, and his secretary survived the impeachment after the Assembly failed to hit the threshold required to remove them from office.
Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua now has 14 days to implement the Assembly’s decision.
