Drama in Embu after woman found misleading minor

There was drama Wednesday at Embu Town after a woman who was allegedly found misleading a lost 9-year-old girl ran away, leaving the girl in the care of passengers in a matatu.

The girl said she had accompanied her mother to Embu Town to buy shoes for school when she stopped to buy yogurt and lost sight of her mother.

She narrated that she sought help from the unidentified woman explaining that she had lost her mother. The woman reportedly seemed to help her find her way home.

However, when in a matatu headed to Manyatta in Embu, a passenger, Rosemary Wambeti, engaged the girl in conversation and found out that she was being misled.

‘The woman was in the matatu holding the child when she told me that she found the child in Embu. That was when I began asking the child questions,” said Wambeti.

She soon found out that the woman had not reported the missing child to the police station.

“I asked her if she had reported the matter to the Police Station and she said she is not able to report to the police and that the child’s mother is the one to look for her,” she narrated.

The woman then alighted from the matatu in a huff.

“It was after other passengers got curious about the issue and started taking photos of the child that the woman alighted from the matatu, leaving the girl behind with me,” said Wambeti.

Wambeti added that the girl and the woman had already traveled from Embu Town to Manyatta Town, which is about 15 Kilometers from the Bus Park.

Once they arrived at Manyatta Stage, Wambeti alighted from the matatu with the child and reported the matter to the police station.

“The police tried to find records of any reported missing children but there was no such record,” said Wambeti.

For now the girl lives with Ms Wambeti until she is reunited with her parents who are said to reside at Mwea in Kirinyaga Central.
