Murkomen accuses President Uhuru Kenyatta of ‘lying’ to the Senate

There was drama at the Senate sitting on Tuesday after Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen protested his ouster from the Jubilee senate leadership.

Shooting from the hip, Murkomen accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of orchestrating his ouster, noting that he is a very small target for the president.

“If the greatest achievement of the President of Kenya is to demonstrate to the people of this country that I have removed my majority leader, that I’m a big man, Mr Speaker, the president is already a big man and I’m just the son of a squatter,” he said.

“I want to say now that Murkomen is out of the way, deliver for the people of Kenya, I will not be your stumbling block, allow all the bills that have been passed unconstitutionally to come to the house,” he added.

At the same time, he accused the president of lying to the senate that he would allocate oversight funds to the house, saying the funds were yet to be remitted almost three years down the line.

“Mr President stop lying to Senate, you promised to give funds to this house where is it, if Murkomen was on the way ,give us that money now since am away from the house,” he added.

His statement was however shot down by Siaya Senator James Orengo who said the attack on the president was unwarranted and in bad taste.

“Whatever the anger, the rules of this house must be followed. Murkomen has said that President lied to this house, he should apologize and withdraw that statement,we can’t discuss the conduct of of president or the speaker or sitting judge at such a sitting,” Orengo said.

In a series of outbursts, Murkomen also accused the Senate speaker Kenneth Lusaka of upholding the ouster under duress.

He noted that for instance, out of the 20 senators said to have been present at his ouster, three were from KANU and could not have purported to speak for Jubilee.

Murkomen also claimed to be in possession of evidence that showed his and Susan Kihika’s ousters did not follow the due process.
