Driver arrested carrying 141 pupils in court

The driver of a 74-seater bus arrested on Monday for allegedly ferrying 141 passengers in the vehicle was on Tuesday charged in a Machakos Court with flouting traffic rules by carrying excess passengers.

David Wambua Mutisya was Tuesday arraigned in court on charges that on 1st July 2016 at around 5.00pm along Teachers College Road in Miwani, Machakos Town, being the driver of motor vehicle KBK 297J Mitsubishi minibus, drove the vehicle and carried 67 excess passengers by carrying a total of 141 passengers instead of the recommended 74.

The passengers were all pupils of a primary school and were heading home after attending a function.

The case was heard before Senior Resident Magistrate Lester Simiyu at the Machakos Law Courts.

Wambua was released on a Ksh 200,000 bond or alternative Ksh 100,000 cash bail.

The case will be mentioned on July 19th and heard on August 17th, 2016.
