Drug trafficker abandons bhang in car after police chase

bhang worth 500000 nabbed in Busia

Police in Mombasa County are pursuing a drug trafficker who allegedly abandoned a vehicle loaded with bhang worth Ksh 1.5 million in Changamwe area.

Police officers acting on a tip-off intercepted the vehicle along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway when the driver sped-off on foot abandoning his consignment.

According to Changamwe CID boss Francis Wanjau, the bhang was stuffed in sacks and hidden in the vehicle.

Wanjau said the suspect is believed to be among wanted drug traffickers behind a network of smugglers bringing drugs from the neighboring countries to Mombasa where the demand is high.

Police officers manning roadblocks have been accused of colluding with drug dealers in smuggling  narcotics, mainly bhang and hard drugs, along the major highways and border points.

The car is being detained at the Changamwe Police Station.
