Drunk policeman arrested for causing fracas in Police Station

A police officer based at Diani Police Station in Kwale County has been arrested after he tried to cause fracas at the station on Monday evening.

The officer, Constable Hans Mwambuyu, is said to have gone out on a drinking spree with friends at a joint in Ukunda where later commotion ensued after a disagreement.

According to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity, Mwambuyu arrested one of the people he was arguing with when he was allegedly drunk and took him to the station, where he also tried to snatch a riffle from his colleague.

He was however restrained by fellow officers who said he had become uncontrollable and they feared he might have used the rifle to shoot indiscriminately.

“When he reached the station some officers told him he cannot arrest anyone while drunk and therefore should release the man, but instead he started arguing with his colleagues and attempted to grab a rifle from one of them,” the source said.

Msambweni OCPD Benjamin Rotich said the matter is being dealt internally and there is no cause for alarm.

“We will not take the officer anywhere instead we will just resolve the matter internally since it’s a very small problem,” he said.

“Hans Mwambuyu just joined the police service a year ago and has already started misbehaving,” said a senior police officer at the station, adding that he was risking the lives of his colleagues.
