Traffic police at Thika Sagana Highway on Friday busted a group of drunk students travelling in a matatu.

The driver of the vehicle which is registered to Expresso Sacco is said to have been over speeding and carrying excess passengers.

Confirming the incident Makuyu traffic police boss Abdullahi Tato said that they have managed to arrest the driver of the vehicle which ferries passengers along the Mwiki route

Tato said that the driver will be charged with over speeding, carrying excess passengers among other charges.

He further stated that the vehicle which has a carrying capacity of 33 passengers had an excess of 19 passengers.

Police had to look for alternative means of transport to get the students home as the vehicle was impounded at the station.

They were informed that there were students travelling in a vehicle throwing out beer bottles through the windows on the Thika Sagana road.

Parents and teachers are being advised to ensure that they have means to get the students home safely after closing school.
