Man accused of sexually harassing his two sons

A drunkard man in Maralal town, Samburu County, has elicited outrage for reportedly harassing his two children.

According to one of the minors, a Standard 5 pupil, the suspect used to beat up their mother until she ran away and separated from him, abandoning them in their home.

The child said their father has been battering him and his brother and sometimes attempting to sexually harass them. The man is also accused of coming home drunk and threatening the children with a panga and a cigarette stub.

“He hit me with a panga and he was touching us as if he wanted to sodomize us. Once when we came back home, he attempted to break our legs,” he said.

Area Chief Selina Lemakara said the man had been accused of beating and sexually harassing his children on three different occassions.

“I tried to refer that case to the children’s officer but that man persuaded his children to forgive him and they returned home, this is now for the third time and I will not tolerate this habit,” she said.

Lemakara urged the government to take a serious action against the man so it can serve as an example to other parents who are harassing their children.

He urged parents in the region to use the right means to correct their children when they are on the wrong.

According to Mohammed Gullied, a resident of Maralal town, the man had been warning his children against revealing his behavior to anyone until yesterday when the beans were spilled.

Maralal Location Nyumba Kumi Chairman Solomon Wanyeki also warned parents and residents against harassing children, noting that children laws will catch up with them.
