Duale defends CS Magoha on payment of school fees
Garissa Township Member of Parliament (MP) Aden Duale has come to the defense of Education CS Prof. George Magoha over the payment of schools fees by parents saying the CS was misunderstood on the matter.
Speaking in Garissa, Duale said he supported CS Magoha’s position to send students home for fees especially those from well-off families who are able to pay but have declined to do so.
He said only students from poor and needy backgrounds as well as those who lost their jobs due to COVID-19 pandemic will be exempted from going home and will receive bursary from CDF.
The former Majority leader said normal operations in many schools are almost coming to a halt due to lack of money.

CS Magoha had instructed schools heads to send home those students whose parents are known to be able to pay school fees but attracted condemnation from some quarters.
“I want to request, on behalf of government, that the Kenyan parents who are still denying paying the balance of their third term school fees to pay without delay,” said Magoha.
He added: “The headteachers and principals should double-check and ensure that the child they are sending home is not from a poor family or where the parent has lost their job. Majority of people who are refusing to pay school fees can afford to pay and they must now pay.”
