Duale defends decision to oust Jubilee rebels

House Majority Leader Aden Duale on Tuesday defended the move by Jubilee lawmakers to oust Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter, Moiben MP Silas Teren, Marakwet East MP Kangogo Bowen and Emng’wen lawmaker Alex Kosgey.

The four were kicked out from the leadership of four parliamentary committees something Duale says was a decision based on equity and inclusivity.

Addressing the press at Parliament buildings, Duale said the Jubilee Party leadership had resolved to have every county have representation in at least one House Committee to promote equity.

“When we were deciding on the men and women who should take the positions of chairs and vice-chairs, it was not based on qualification… It was on the principal of equity and inclusivity. That is the principal on which the president and his deputy want to lead the Jubilee Party in future,” he said.

“We set as a leadership, that each county that we have MPs will produce at least one chair and one or two vice chairs with the exception of Kiambu County which had many (13) MPs.”

In what is understood to have been execution of an order issued by the president, Jubilee lawmakers on Tuesday used their numerical strength to kick out four MPs from top committee positions.

The Majority Leader explained that Nandi County, where Keter comes from, is represented by Tinderet MP Julius Meli who chairs the Education Committee and Serem of Aldai as vice-chair in the Trade Committee.

In Uasin Gishu County where Mr. Teren comes from, Duale said the two slots are occupied by Woman Representative Gladys Boss Sholei and Kesses MP Mishra Kiprop.
