Duale defends Jubilee for snubbing Raila on Madaraka Day

National Assembly Majority Leader, Aden Duale, has defended a decision by the executive to snub NASA’s presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, during the Madaraka Day celebrations held in Nyeri led by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The issue, that has since generated a heated debate especially across social media, Kenyans in support of the jubilee regime said that it was a national function while those against the Uhuru Kenyatta-led faction condemned the move to snub Odinga saying the former Premier should have been given a chance to speak as he is a national leader.

While acknowledging that Raila was a respectable leader invited for the function, Duale said that it was not mandatory for him to speak and it was not out of order.

“There was no crime in him not been given a chance to speak. This was not a rally, wedding or a funeral for that matter but a national celebrations day,” said Duale.

“If Raila Odinga does not speak or talk on a national day, does that mean that Kenya is not cohesive and inclusive? The inclusivity of the people of Kenya is the 45 million citizens. It’s not an individual.”

While addressing the press in Garissa Town, the Majority Leader noted that for the past four years it is the same opposition that has been snubbing national celebrations’ and instead resorted to holding parallel rallies.

“I was personally present and I did not speak,” he said.
