Duale ouster sabotage to North Eastern leadership, MPs

Members of Parliament from Northern Kenya have vowed to oppose any efforts to eject Aden Duale as the Leader of Majority at the National Assembly.

This is after MPs from Nyeri County led by Women Representative Priscillah Nyokabi and Kanini Kega of threatened to censure Duale for failing to give a list of suspected Al Shabaab financiers.

The Nyeri MPs on Monday issued a seven-day ultimatum to Duale to release the list of face a censure motion.

However, their North Eastern Kenya counterparts – majority being members of the United Republican Party (URP) – say that the move is aimed at destabilizing the ruling coalition and creating political animosity among party members.

Led by Fafi MP Elias Bare Shiil, the leaders referred the threat by the Central Kenya MPs as a move meant to sabotage leaders from northern Kenya and a direct assault on the people who voted overwhelmingly for the jubilee government.

Shiil said the censure plan was a side show considering that the Northern region has suffered the brunt of marginalization, insecurity, stagnation in education and underdevelopment which should be the focus instead of political machinations.

Speaking separately in Nandi County, more than ten Governors and Senators – who had accompanied Deputy President William Ruto – dismissed reports that they are planning to withdraw from the Jubilee coalition as rumours and propaganda.

This comes just a day after MPs allied to the Jubilee coalition called for an urgent meeting to discuss the way forward on the issue that threatens the stability of the ruling coalition.
