Dutch man accused of defiling two girls charged

Dutch national Hans Egon Dieter Vriens who is accused of defiling two girls aged 8 and 10 years has pleaded not guilty.

Vriens, who was arrested in Kasarani on Thursday November 1,2018 by detectives from the Child Protection Unit and Transnational Organized Crime Unit was charged with two counts of defilement and two additional counts of committing an indecent act.

In their submissions, the Prosecution asked the court not to grant the accused bail saying he has been hiding for the last six months.

The Court also heard how the accused changed his known residence and could not be traced even through his mobile phone.

“After a thorough, search the respondent was found hiding in a vacant house in a closet,” the court heard.

The Prosecution further believes that the accused is in communication with some witnesses and if released on bail he is likely to interfere with the case.

The Dutch man was denied bail until the two minors testify.

According to a tweet posted by the office of the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday, the accused committed the offences in 2016 and then disappeared for two years before his arrest.
