EACC boss questioned over NYS tenders

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) chair Philip Kinisu was on Monday morning grilled by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over the multimillion National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

Detectives summoned the EACC chair after it emerged that his family company – Esaki Limited – was awarded lucrative tenders at the National Youth Service and the Ministry of Health.

The grilling, that lasted for nearly two hours, revolved around the millions of shillings that Esaki Limited won at the NYS in form of tenders and at the Ministry of Health.

The EACC boss was questioned by head of investigations at DCI John Kariuki in a bid to establish whether his company benefited from the Ksh 791 million loot from the NYS.

Kinisu is said to have presented his papers including documentation of the businesses his company had with NYS before requesting to be allowed to attend a session in Parliament where EACC was meeting the Parliamentary Joint Select Committee on IEBC over the ‘Chickengate’ scandal.

Kinisu availed himself at the DCI headquarters contrary to the norm where the detectives seek an appointment.

Kinisu’s wife, Mary, who co-owns the company is also expected to appear before the detectives to shed more light.
