EACC detectives raid Kericho County offices

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday raided the Kericho County offices and carted away documents in a probe over a controversial tender award.

EACC Communication Officer Yasin Ailah, who led the team, said they had launched formal investigations into the tendering process of the Ksh.100 million Kerenga Airstrip Rehabilitation Program.

The officer added that once investigations are complete, arrest of procurement officers and other senior county officials connected to tender will follow.

The commission conducted the raid following Belgut MP Nelson Koech’s letter requesting investigation into the tender award.

Koech drew the attention of the commission to the alleged alteration of the requirement of the eligible bidders to have National Construction Authority (NCA) 3 qualification.

The legislator, in whose constituency the airstrip is located, claimed that the company which won the tender was responsible for shoddy roads and other works across the county.

The airstrip upgrading project has been dogged with controversy since inception.

The officers have also ordered for bank statements of certain CECs and COs who are believed to have amassed so much wealth in such a short time that they cannot account for.
