EACC detectives raid Siaya County offices over fraud claims

Business was paralysed at the Siaya County government offices on Wednesday after Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers raided the offices of county executives over claims of fraud.

The over 20 EACC officers stormed and ransacked the governor’s offices for the better part of the day accompanied by armed police officers.

Some of the offices that were raided include that of the Interim County Secretary Mr Kepher Marube, office of the procurement department and that of the department of finance where they confiscated a number of computer CPUs.

The officers, who also raided the county’s health department offices, carried with them a list containing the names of contractors who have been undertaking all county government contracts and tenders.

The anti-graft commission officers who declined to speak to members of the press later proceeded to the government quarters where they also raided and ransacked the office of the Interim County Secretary Mr Kepher Marube and that of chief officer of finance Mr Daniel Okoth.

During the day, county government officials could be seen moving up and down as the EACC officials went on with their work in the various offices.

Efforts to get a response from county government officials equally bore no fruits.

During the month of December last year, a team of detectives from the EACC also raided the homes of former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, Principal Secretary Peter Mangiti and former National Youth Service (NYS) Director General Nelson Githinji in search of crucial evidence in the then ongoing investigations into graft allegations leveled against them.

The detectives also raided the homes of two other officials, NYS Deputy Director General Adan Harakhe and suspended tendering committee chair.
