Murang’a ranked as most corrupt county

The Interior Ministry and Murang’a County have been ranked as the most corrupt in a report released by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday.

Other dockets that made the list include Health, Devolution, Education, Transport and Lands Ministries respectively.

According to Rev. Eliud Wabukala, Chairperson of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the fight against corruption is on course.

“The commission has so far recovered assets worth Ksh.6.7 billion and we are looking to return them to the rightful owners,” he

He was speaking during the release of the 2016/2017 corruption survey report at his office on Tuesday.

In the counties list, Trans Nzoia was ranked second most corrupt with a bribe perception of 84 percent followed by Mandera (79.4 percent), Kirinyaga (78.9 percent), Marsabit (78.2 percent) and Tharaka Nithi (75.7 percent).

Meru County came in seventh with 70.8 percent followed by Laikipia (67.9 percent), Machakos (62.7 percent) and Nyandarua (61.5 percent)

The least corrupt counties are Lamu, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Kericho, Wajir and Kwale respectively. Others are Elgeyo Marakwet, Kisii, Migori and Kilifi.
