EACC links graft to incompetence of procurement officers

The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) now says that major corruption scandals in the country revolve around the procurement process.

Speaking in Garissa town during a three-day workshop to train the county staff on the importance of observing ethics and maintaining high standards of integrity, EACC official Dr. Dabar Mohammed said the procurement process has been classified as the most affected by graft.

He said that lack of qualified personnel conversant with the procurement act and code of ethics at the county level has largely contributed to thriving corruption saying that graft cannot be fought by EACC alone but needs support from all government departments.

“County governments should partner with trained and experienced public procurement authority officers in national government and other related agencies so as to enhance the expertise of their staff,” noted Dr. Dabar.
