EACC officials arrest former Senator Joy Gwendo

Former Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo was on Friday arrested by EACC officers over claims of stealing and issuing a bouncing cheque.

Gwendo was arrested at Karen, Nairobi after Director of Public Prosecution gave consent to a charge of stealing, issuing bad cheque and abuse of office.

EACC deputy director Michael Mubea said the former senator organised a fundraiser for Kisumu East Cotton Growers C0-Operative Society which raised Ksh2.2m but allegedly only gave out Ksh200,000 and pocketed the rest.

The offenses were committed between October and December, 2016.

She has been released on Ksh100,000 bond and will arraigned on Monday.
