EACC pursuing Chinese firm that was overpaid Ksh.400M

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is pursuing a Chinese firm that was overpaid Ksh.400m for the supply of mobile-clinic containers.

EACC said in a statement on Tuesday that investigations show Estama limited sub-contracted the Chinese firm through which they received excess payment.

This was in comparison to the valuation of the portable clinics done by the Ministry of Health.

EACC further said the courts had directed them and Estama investments to negotiate through alternative dispute resolution methods.

The resolution would be aimed at recovering the funds before January 8 2021.

EACC which began probe into the matter in 2016 had reached out to the Chinese Embassy and Authorities with the aim of achieving mutual legal assistance in finding the actual cost of the containers.

The commission now awaits communication from the Chinese authorities so that criminal investigations file can be concluded and forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for review.
