EACC raid Tharaka Nithi Deputy Governors home, seize cash

The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) officers on Friday, October 21 raided Tharaka Nithi Deputy Governor, Eliud Muriithi’s, residence at Kinoru Estate in Meru and a clinic linked to him seizing a stash of money from his wife’s office.

EACC investigators conducted a thorough search and recovered a total of 900,000 shillings in cash safely sealed in an envelope in his wife’s office.

The investigators, believed to be from the EACC headquarters, searched hoping to get money that could implicate him in corrupt dealings.

EACC is also expected to put him to task to explain his source or sources of money as he reportedly handles huge sums of cash often.

During the raid at his house, detectives found nothing substantial, save for a motor vehicle, a Range Rover that was parked next to his official vehicle.

Muriithi, however, told the detectives that the luxury car was quite old and had only cost him Ksh 500,000, the price relative to a second hand Toyota Vitz.

Regional police boss, Ignatius Wekesa, however, said he was not aware of the raid.

This comes just days after Muriithi raised alarm over the alleged loss of 3.5 million shillings to his bodyguard, money he claims was proceeds from sale of land.

Detectives went after Constable Josphat Kipyegon and his girlfriend Rose Kajira and supposedly recovered part of the money.

The two suspects, who were arraigned before Principal Magistrate Stella Abuya, denied the charges and were released on a bond of Ksh 100, 000 each or cash bail of Ksh 500,000.
