EACC raids former Tharaka Nithi Governor homes

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Thursday morning raided two homes of former Tharaka Nithi Governor Samuel Ragwa and carted away crucial documents they intend to use in a graft probe concerning the County Government.

The operation began at 3am at Ragwa’s Kinoru home in Meru County before the officers moved to his other home at Giampampo in Tharaka Nithi County where they mounted a search before leaving at 11am together with the former county boss.

Addressing the press after being taken in by the EACC officers, Mr. Ragwa said the operation would clear the many doubts about his property and how he was working at the county.

However, he suspected that the raid could be a witch-hunt engineered by his competitors during campaigns who are already working in the County.

Ragwa urged the County Government to focus more on development matters rather than spreading wrong information on how the county was mismanaged by the previous administration.

He noted that it was unfortunate for the county leadership to say that there was no money in the bank before he left office whereas there was Ksh.96 million. He claimed that by the time he left office, the county had uncleared debts of Ksh.500 million and not the billions purported by the current leadership.

Ragwa was recently on the spot after a generator worth Ksh.2.5 million belonging to Tharaka Nithi County was found at a hotel he owns.

Speaking to Citizen Digital Ragwa confirmed that the generator was indeed County Government property and had simply borrowed it.

“The generator is indeed county property. I had simply borrowed it from the County and installed it temporarily because I was to return it after the elections,” said Ragwa.
