Fieden further warned that the outbreak will get worse before it gets better and therefore the need for unequaled response to contain it.

“The numbers are large but we know there are many more cases than has been diagnosed and reported,” Frieden added.

This comes even as Health ministers from across West Africa are set to meet in Ghana to discuss the protracted crisis.

Frieden, the director of the Centers for Disease Control however met Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to discuss ways of fighting the disease.

According to the World Health Organization, Ebola outbreak has so far killed 1,427 people with an estimated 2,615 infected.

Meanwhile, medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres’s Brice de la Vigne has expressed his disappointment in the international response to the epidemic branding it as “entirely inadequate”.

“It is simply unacceptable that serious discussions are only starting now about international leadership and coordination,” Vigne said.

Liberia has been hardest-hit of the affected countries with 624 deaths and 1,082 cases since the start of the year.

Liberians have since been asked to take urgent actions and get together to help contain the deadly virus.
