Economist Jane Kiringai nominated as new revenue commission chair

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday nominated economist Jane Kiringai as the Chairman of the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).

The president sent Kiringai’s name to Parliament for approval before the appointment for a term of 6 years.

Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso directed the finance and planning committee to speed up the vetting given the critical role played by the CRA within the framework of division of revenue.

Kiringai will be vetted seven days after the public is invited to submit memoranda on her suitability for the job by the committee chaired by Benjamin Lang’at, Ainamoi Member of Parliament.

The report of the committee should be tabled by the 15th of February 2017.

If MPs approve Kiringai’s name, she will take over from CRA outgoing Chairman Micah Cheserem whose term and that of seven other commissioner came to an end last month.

The president had already appointed eight new CRA Commissioners including former political detainee Prof Edward Oyugi to the crucial commission which recommends to Parliament on the formula to be used in the sharing and use of public revenue.
