Education CS orders school to erect a perimeter fence

The Cabinet Secretary for Education Dr. Fred Matiang’i has asked the administration of Mathari Primary School in Nyeri Township to fence the compound of the school to shield the pupils from danger posed by learning in an open field.

Dr. Matiang’i made the remarks moments after officiating the 88th Graduation Ceremony of 442 new teachers at Kamwenja Teachers’ Training (TTC) College in Nyeri County.

He noted that lack of a clear fence allowed people to access the school’s premises posing danger to teachers and learners.

His urge of streamlining the level of education in Kenya has driven him to tour a couple of schools in the recent months.

On Friday, Matiang’i made an inspection tour at the District Education Board (DEB), Muslim Primary School, Githwarogo School, Nyamachaki Primary School and Kihatha Secondary School within Nyeri town.

The CS expressed concern of the poor record keeping in most Primary schools in the area.

He also questioned why a majority of the schools lacked audited school accounts and had not displayed Free Primary Education funds.

Matiang’i further criticized the school administration’s on the standards of cleanliness in their schools.

Earlier, he had toured Kiganjo Primary School and Kagumo High School before heading to Kamwenja TTC.
