Education reforms must go on – Matiang’i

Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Matiang’i says he will continue with the implementation of reforms to streamline the education sector in the country.
He said the guidelines being issued by his Ministry on school dates and fees payment must be followed to the letter and anyone with complaints should raise them with the respective offices adding that should there be a need to change the guidelines, the Ministry will involve all the stakeholders.
He called upon all County Education Boards to work hand-in-hand with school management boards, school heads and unions to improve education.
“Let us build a partnership to ensure our educational institutions are run properly, they remain peaceful and our children are studying in environment that is comfortable and peaceful,” he said.

He challenged students that the government is only interested in addressing their welfare saying the new guidelines will benefit them in the future.

“We want to build a responsible society. We want responsible students who can live in peace and harmony not only in school but even out of school.”

The CS was speaking during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the existence of St. Benedict’s High School Budalang’i.

Dr. Matiang’i was accompanied by former Constitution Implementation Committee chairman Charles Nyachae.

The statement by Matiang’i comes in the wake of school fires that have seen over 80 schools set ablaze in suspected arson cases.
