Education stakeholders want technical training centres improved

Education stakeholders in Embu County have called upon the Government to review and improve Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) curriculum in order to increase enrollments.

Wanjau Beauty College director, Agnes Wawira, said that the TVET curriculum ought to be reviewed to give students an opportunity to shine and become professors and doctors in beauty, fashion design, carpentry, and wielding among other technical trainings.

Wawira adds that most of the Kenyans will not want to enroll into such institutions if they will end up not being recognized like in other careers.

She said that reviewing the curriculum to produce such caliber of persons in the country will motivate more school leavers to enroll and pursue the technical courses.

Embu County Executive Committee Member for Education, Jamleck Muturi, said that the country had placed more emphasis on TVET in order to bridge the gap of artisan that has hit the country.

Muturi adds that in order to entice more people to enroll in TVET, the County Government of Embu has placed capitation at Ksh 5,000 per student joining public TVET and bursary of Ksh 8,000.

He said that for the country to realize Vision 2030, there is need for more graduates being produced from TVET with their skills to propel the economy engine.

Muturi called upon parents to use the opportunity and enroll their children in TVET in order to have a person who can create employment rather than job seekers.

The stakeholders were speaking during the graduation of 40 students from Wanjau College who were awarded Diploma and Certificates in beauty, fashion and design.
