CS Magoha says 11 examination officials arrested for trying to leak KCSE papers

As the ongoing KCSE national examination enters the homestretch, the Ministry of Education is focusing on individuals aiding exam theft in various schools.

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha on Wednesday announced the arrest of 11 examination officials who have been attempting to penetrate what he termed an impermeable exam security feature.

“Although we have been decisive and ruthless in our pursuit of the masterminds, there are still regrettably a few who continue to test the resolve of government,” said the CS.

In one exam centre in Suba, Homa Bay County, one supervisor has been arrested in John Mbadi School over claims of exam leakage.

Another centre manager was also arrested in Karachuonyo in Adeka Mixed Secondary School with the Ministry of Education putting others on notice.

Detectives took into custody two supervisors and one centre manager in El-hagarsu Mixed Secondary School for colluding to leak the ongoing exams in Mandera.

A further three were arrested within the same time in Kenyenya, Kisii County, over claims that they bent the exams rules and sought to have students of Kerongorori access the national exams before time.

In Fafi, Garissa County, one centre manager was arrested over similar suspicions.

A supervisor and a centre manager in Moro Secondary School in Nyakach, Kisumu County, were also arrested and will be arraigned in court.

“I want to charge all the security officers not to trust any centre manager because in order for them to cut and remove the paper, they would hoodwink the security officer with a very nice cup of tea…I don’t understand…one security officer must always have his or her eyes on the exams through and through,” added Prof. Magoha.

More exam officials are being pursued in Nairobi for leaking Wednesday’s Agriculture paper one with the ministry promising firm action against them.
