Eight Al Shabaab suspects arrested in Mombasa, weaponry confiscated

Police in Malindi have arrested eight suspected terror suspects presumed to be members of the Al Shabaab terror group.

Police arrested the cell members from Mombasa who had escaped arrest in an earlier operation at Malindi Nakumatt at around 2pm.

Four of the suspects were identified as Sultan Ali Sultan, Imran Hassan Ahmed, Shamir shamsha Mohamed and Nasur Sultan Mbbaraka.

The suspect hail from Mombasa’s Gajoni area. A vehicle they were using, Reg. No. KCD 925V was detained at Malindi Police Station where they are being held for being members of a terror group.

Police had on Tuesday night killed a suspected Al Shabaab militant and arrested four others, at Ngala area in Malindi.

Those arrested on Tuesday night were identified as Hamud Majid Hamud, Khamis Hemed Khamis, Hamza Juma Khamisim  and Abdullazziz Ali Sultan.

Malindi OCPD Matawa Mushangi said one police officer was injured during the fierce exchange of gun fire, with two rifles, computers, identity cards and several rounds of ammunition also recovered.

Mushangi said police acted on a tip off from members of the public, with claims they had been radicalizing and recruiting youth in the area to join the terror group.
