Eight die in grisly road accident

Eight people were killed and scores others seriously injured in a grisly accident along the Chavakali-Kapsabet road in Vihiga County.

The accident occurred after a matatu collided head-on with an oncoming lorry, killing six passengers on the spot and injuring several others. Two other people lost their lives while receiving treatment at Kaimosi Hospital.

Confirming the incident, area police boss Gilbert Ekirapa, who was speaking at the scene of the accident, told Citizen Digital that the Matatu was over speeding when the accident happened.

“The matatu was on a very high speed and playing loud music before it collided with the lorry. Six people died on the spot while another died in the hospital,” he said.

Hamisi police boss Gilbert Ekirapa said the injured are receiving treatment in various health facilities, including Kaimosi Hospital.

The police boss urged pedestrians to be careful when using roads and reminded drivers to adhere to traffic rules.
