Eight killed, scores injured in Meru accident

Eight people have been killed following an accident involving a lorry and a matatu at Ng’onyi on the Meru-Nairobi highway.

According to eye witnesses, the two vehicles collided head-on as the driver of the commuter matatu belonging to Nyamenya Sacco plying Maua-Nairobi route was trying to overtake a motorcycle.

The tragic accident has resulted in disruption of traffic on the busy road as Kenya Red Cross, police and fire fighters made attempts to rescue survivors and retrieve the bodies.

Two others who were also in the matatu that was carrying 10 passengers have been rescued and taken to Meru Level Five Hospital for medical attention as the bodies removed to the same facility’s morgue.
